Our journey to creating Ownify

The systemic pitfalls in the current pathways to homeownership and seeing the missed opportunities endured by countless potential homebuyers was at the core of why we developed a product that aims to fix a system that is serving only a small minority.

When we were in the early stages of developing our Ownify program, we knew we had to speak to as many people as we could about why they wanted to own a home, and understand any problems they had faced in their journey to homeownership to date.  Through our extensive market research, we met many wonderful individuals who were willing to share their stories.  Here are some of the things we learned:

• Buying a home is synonymous with the American Dream. Yes, a nice place to live is of course desirable, but having true ownership creates a sense of freedom.

• No one individual has the same story.  Yet there is a united belief that having a home of your own is a real achievement.  And that continuing to rent is simply wasted money.

• The solutions currently available to support first time homeowners are very limited, can be hard to access, and don’t necessarily accelerate the process for people trying to buy their first home.

We’ve known for a long time that the way people buy homes was in need of a shake up.  The industry is enormous and huge profits are made, and yet, surprisingly, there has been very little innovation in the sector.  Buying a home should not be something reserved for the lucky few who have the access to a large down payment, it needs to be an option for far more people.

Proud. Free. Joyful. Successful.  These were some of the emotions shared when we asked individuals how they would feel if they ever got to walk through the door of their first home.  Very similar to the emotions the team felt when our first Ownis walked through their front door for the very first time and how we will feel every single time we manage to help someone else achieve their homeownership dream.
